Lion Inn team leap into action for North Cotswold Foodbank

12th November 2025

Staff at The Lion Inn in Winchcombe have leapt into action to raise money for North Cotswold Foodbank.

Their Community Week from 17th – 23rd November kicks off with a coffee and cake sale, ends with a prize draw and includes a quiz night and a family fun afternoon at the pub in North Street. There’s also a donation station for the food bank in the pub.

Team member Karyn Ballinger along with manager Alex Davenport Jones and his wife Sally and the rest of the team at The Lion are hoping to raise £500 for the food bank.

“We have a community week every year and this year we chose North Cotswold Foodbank because of the brilliant job they do,” said Karyn. “Seven years ago when my family’s lives were turned upside down, the food bank became an amazing part of our lives. They were a massive support. There’s not enough awareness that they help with all sorts of things like legal advice. During Covid there were people around here who lost everything and if it hadn’t been for the food bank, they’d have been lost.”

General Manager Alex gave credit to Karyn for “taking the bull by the horns” and doing much of the organising for the fundraising drive. “If you put the word ‘Cotswolds’ in a sentence, people see pound signs. But those of us who live here know it’s not all like that. So it’s good to be doing something tangible that makes a difference to local people,” he said.

North Cotswold Foodbank Manager Kevin Carden thanked The Lion team for their support. “This kind of community backing is brilliant,” he said.

The prize draw includes a host of prizes including a giant hamper, an overnight stay at The Lion, a family ticket to Gifford’s Circus and a family ticket to the GWR Steam Railway.
